Since 1997, OhioHealth and Christner have teamed for strategic facility planning of multiple community hospitals. There are three main OhioHealth campuses in Columbus: Riverside Methodist Hospital, a 1049-bed suburban community hospital; Grant Medical Center, a 467-bed downtown hospital; and Doctors Hospital, a 194-bed historically osteopathic community hospital. Each campus has its own set of issues and challenges that were addressed in the context of system-wide operational goals. We also developed strategic facility plans for Gallon and Bucyrus Community Hospitals.
Size: Five hospital campuses, 1,915 beds
Status: Completed 2005
Christner's strategic facility plan for Doctor's Hospital included analyzing suitability for reinvestment, priority service lines, and capital availability. We recommended a new MOB and ED addition.
Christner created a backfill plan for Riverside Methodist Hospital that defined the 'best' use of approximately 40,000 sf of space made available by a completed Heart Hospital addition.
For the heavily constrained Grant Medical Center, Christner provided an alternate solution to a plan expanding Women's Services. This alternate aligned with the capital plan.
