Christner reconfigured emergency services at St. John’s to create new state-of-the-art facilities and integrate patient flow to the hospital. With the addition, the hospital gains a pedestrian front door and designated pediatric and adult waiting areas for urgent and emergency care. A dedicated ambulance entrance (sized for eight vehicles) accommodates triage staff for faster, better care at this Level One Trauma Center. Four helicopter pads on the roof provide direct elevator access to critical care rooms in emergency.

An innovative design allows for horizontal and vertical integration of patient flow to St. John’s Hospital. The floors above the Trauma Center connect to corresponding patient floors in the West Pavilion.
Ambulances with critical or serious cases are provided with a dedicated garage in a protected area large enough to unload eight ambulances simultaneously.
The main entry lobby is bright and open, facilitating wayfinding for patients and visitors.

Christner’s graphic designers developed a signage plan to aid in wayfinding throughout the campus, including this entry sign.
A two-level parking deck is just north of the Emergency Trauma and Imaging Center.
