For the Blessing Hospital Cancer Center, Christner's design reflects the belief that the therapeutic aspects of architecture can make a real difference in the experience of patients with cancer. The building's comforting, serene and friendly presence, in tandem with the interior design, deliberately create a healing environment through a theme of natural images and materials. As envisioned by the Master Plan, the Center is connected to the main hospital to allow patients easy access to other services.

The cancer center was designed to create a distinctive identity on campus. Our landscape architects incorporated a healing garden to give patients a quiet place to relax and enjoy the outdoors.
We designed the two-story atrium to serve as both a waiting area and wayfinding tool. Visitors enter from the main entry drive at the upper level for medical oncology and at the lower level for radiation oncology.
Planners included an education area to give patients the opportunity to learn more about their treatment and recovery process.
Our graphic designers incorporated themes of renewal into the cancer center's logo, signage and artwork, including the donor wall shown here.
The treatment areas, including the linear accelerators, are designed to make patients as comfortable as possible.
