As competition for students heats up, marketing your campus is more important than ever
David Coleman and Tom Van Landingham gave a talk at the Society for College and University Planning North Central Conference on the importance of Voice of the Customer Analysis to Campus Planning. They used the college visit tour and the affect of campus appearance on student application rates as a case study. They discussed ways to acquire non-biased feedback from students through voice of the customer surveys and demonstrated how this feedback can be translated into actionable campus improvement plans.

“Radical Transformation: Investing in Renewal at Tulane University,” with Yvette Jones, Tulane University, and John Reeve and David Coleman, NACUBO International Conference, New Orleans, 2007
When Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, two-thirds of Tulane’s campus was affected by flood water and the school was forced to close, thereby displacing all of its student, faculty, staff and administration to temporary locations across the country. In response this disaster, Tulane drafted a bold “Plan for Renewal” that sought to reinvent the University. This session will present the development of the strategic facility plan that allowed Tulane to leverage the disaster to advance a new institutional vision. Some issues that will be discussed include: structuring the process for rapid results after a crisis, maximizing the opportunities of vacated space with minimal capital investment, and alternate approaches to organizing student-centered services.
